General : ADB ETESP Fisheries Team Training for Village Aquaculture Extension Staff (TPD) in NAD and Nias

Banda Aceh (26/05) – ADB ETESP Asian Development Bank (ADB) ETESP (Earthquake and tsunami emergency support project) continues providing agro input/pond rehab assistance through out the 11 districts/towns in NAD and Nias. As one of those efforts, the ADB ETESP team launched a program, Village Aquaculture Extension (TPD), to assist farmers in NAD and Nias. This program employs 32 TPD staffs for 6 months contract under the 2008 DIPA budget. One of basic requirements to become ADB ETESP TPD staff is to have aquaculture basic education background; therefore, the person can assist farmers in guiding the ADB’s agro input beneficiaries to reach optimum production. The TPD programs will also promote Better Management Practice (BMP), in order to achieve successful harvest, best quality and safe aquaculture products, particularly shrimp production. TPD program is hoped to assist farmers’ livelihood and to elevate their life to a better life after tsunami and earthquake disaster.

Simeulue District : ADB ETESP supported Simeulue Island’s grouper farmers through training in East coast of Aceh mainland

Banda Aceh (28/04) – ADB ETESP. A grouper training course was organized during 23 - 24 April 2008, for grouper nursing farmers from Kerapu Jaya group in Simeulue. The group was anticipated to provide good and healthy grouper juvenile to the small-scale marine cages business in Simeulue Island, and to introduce the sustainable small-scale business model to the fishers and farmers in Simeulue Island. The training was conducted as a part of ETESP sub-component 3– rehabilitation of aquaculture activity.

General : Aquaculture Indonesia 2008

The Aquaculture Indonesia 2008 in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia will be a 2 days conference focused on environmentally friendly, economically and socially sustainable aquaculture. The conference will discuss the strategies for producing high quality aquaculture products that are free from antibiotic and hazardous chemical residue, and the strategies for strengthening the market access. The conference is organized by Masyarakat Akuakultur Indonesia (MAI) and the cooperation with Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, World Aquaculture Society, and others. Aceh Utara : PMO of ADB EMS Handed Over the Fishing Vessels to Beneficiaries

Banda Aceh (8/04) – ADB ETESP. ADB handed the 4 wooden fishing vessels to 4 fisherman groups, total of 85 members, in Tanah Pasir and Seuneuddon sub-districts in Aceh Utara district. 20 GT (Gross Tonne) vessels are fully furnished with fishing gears (small crane, 1200 m purse seiner, communication radio, GPS, fish finder device, life jackets) and also Rp. 10 millions was provided as an initial operational cost.
Those 4 vessels are part of ADB’s commitment of 126 fishing vessels, varies in weight 15-20 GT and shape. ADB has disbursed Rp. 27.3 billions for building 126 vessels during 2005 to 2008. The vessels delivery is one of the six different parts of Earthquake and Tsunami Emergency Support Project (ETESP) across 11 districts/towns in NAD and Nias. During the construction of the vessels, ADB consultant and the group members were proactive to monitor the building process, to achieve standard quality according to BKI (Indonesian Classification Bureau), and to incorporate the local needs into its design.

General : ETESP Fisheries activities provided support to over 20,000 beneficiaries

The ETESP Fisheries activities provided direct support to over 20,000 beneficiaries and their family members by end of 2007. The “Fact Sheet” is a short summary of the Fisheries Component of the ETESP, and contains details of the various activities achieved, number of delivered contracts, and target activities/contracts in 2008.
